Polarised Light Microscopy (PLM)

Polarised Light Microscopy (PLM) Service

Polarised Light Microscopy (PLM) is used in Drug discovery to determine the form of the material; amorphous, crystalline, or mixed from the birefringence of the material being analysed. At the Solubility Company, we have multiple custom microscopes that allow us to measure this for our customers prior to the samples being used in our SPA™ Solubility Assay. This saves time, and material and helps the client confirm the form of the sample we are measuring for them.

Why PLM?

Unseen Samples

A large number of samples are sent to The Solubility Company directly from a CDMO or Med Chem CRO so the client has not been able to confirm the form of the sample whether it be; crystalline, amorphous, or mixed, the form of the sample needs to be known to fully understand the developability of the sample.  Therefore the form information coupled with the SPA Solubility Assay or Dissolution Rate Assay helps the client assess the developability of their samples.

Results

Results are fully reported to the client normally within 10 days of the sample arriving in Helsinki, faster turnarounds are available for time-critical projects.
